What resources are available to veterans interested in solar jobs?

Solar Ready Vets

There is a growing recognition of the high transferability of skills from the military to solar.

The Department of Energy's Solar Ready Program is connecting veterans to the solar industry by preparing them for a wide range of jobs in solar related jobs including system installers, sales representatives, system inspectors, and other solar-related occupations. Visiting the SunShot Initiative’s Solar Ready Program website would enable you to find a variety of resources, including the Solar Instructor Training Network (SITN), contacts, and access to training programs.

Online portals can also be helpful for veterans searching for solar-related employment. The Veteran’s Employment Center, run by the Department of Veterans Affairs and the Department of Defense, targets veterans and provides access to many job-openings. Another job portal available to veterans is America’s Job Center, which is run by the Department of Labor.

More programs are available through companies, such as SolarCity.

The Solar Foundation’s Job Census, produced in collaboration with the GW Solar Institute, found that 9% of the solar workforce, around 16,835 veterans, were employed by the solar industry.
