About STEP

The Solar Training and Education for Professionals (STEP) program continues the U.S. Department of Energy SunShot Initiative's foundational work on reducing soft costs by addressing gaps in solar training and energy education, both within the solar workforce and in professions that play a crucial role in solar deployment. The STEP program enables solar training and education for professionals in indirect and related fields such as real estate, finance, insurance, fire and code enforcement, and state regulations and establishes new credentials in solar operations and maintenance. Regardless of industry, an efficient, well-trained workforce familiar with solar improves inspection compliance, expedites system permitting, reduces liability and insurance costs, and increases consumer confidence.
