In October, GW Solar Institute Director Amit Ronen traveled to Las Vegas, Nevada to speak at one of the world's largest solar energy conventions, Solar Power International. Since 2003, SEIA and SEPA have hosted the annual conference that attracts solar business leaders and industry experts to share best practices and discuss ideas and emerging industry trends. This year, the multi-day event featured hundreds of exhibitors and more than 15,000 attendees from over 75 countries.
Director Ronen served on the panel, The Rise of Super Solar Customers, a session showcasing how influential businesses and organizations have overcome institutional roadblocks to pioneer innovative, new ways to achieve their renewable energy goals. These “super solar” customers have forged new paths forward, effectively changing the ways in which the commercial sector can expand their renewable energy portfolios. Director Ronen's remarks focused on George Washington University’s unique partnership and financing model that allowed the university to get more than 50 percent of its electricity from solar energy.
