Challenges to Solar as a Leading Solution to Climate Change and Energy Problems
The George Washington University Solar Institute Second Annual Symposium took place on April 19, 2010. The annual event featured a panel on long-term visions for solar energy and the key issues and opportunities faced by solar. Later sessions focused on the technical and economic feasibility of solar electricity reaching an energy-significant scale from both photovoltaics and solar thermal technologies, as well as a a look at how solar energy might help fuel transportation needs. Featured speakers represented over three-quarters of both U.S. PV manufacturing capacity and solar thermal industry. The keynote address was delivered by former Ambassador Stuart Eizenstat, who led the U.S. negotiation of the Kyoto Protocol and served as chief domestic policy adviser to President Carter. Many thanks are owed to the extraordinary line-up of speakers and to the events sponsors DuPont, Lockheed Martin, and the law firm of Winston & Strawn LLP.
