Debra Jacobson has worked in the fields of energy and environmental law and policy for more than 30 years.
For more than 25 years, Jacobson worked in the legislative and executive branches of the Federal government, including 16 years as a staff member on the House Committee on Energy and Commerce and 6 years as a legislative aide to a member of the Committee. In addition, Jacobson served for five years as a senior advisor and in special assistant positions in the Office of the Secretary, the Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy, and the Office of Environmental Management at the Department of Energy (DOE).
Since 2002, Jacobson has taught a course in Energy Law at the GW Law School and worked as an independent consultant on energy and climate issues. She was a founding member of the Women’s Council on Energy and the Environment in 1981 and currently serves as an Advisor to the Renewable Energy and International Law Project and as a Member of the DOE’s Wind Powering America Strategy Committee. Jacobson joined the GW Solar Institute as Co-Director in September 2009.
She earned her Juris Doctor from The George Washington Law School and her undergraduate degree in Environmental Studies from the University of Rochester. She is a member of the Bar in both New York and Washington, D.C.
